Designers sought for Finland in 100 Years collector coin

The Collector Coin Committee of the centenary of Finland’s independence, instituted by the Ministry of Finance, is holding a competition for the design of a collector coin to be released in 2018. The competition is organised to find a design for the Finland in 100 Years collector coin. The design eventually stamped on the collector coins will be chosen by the competition jury.

A gold coin with a nominal value of EUR 100 will be minted on the theme Finland in 100 Years. The design competition is an open, international contest.

The deadline for submitting entries to the competition is 2 June 2017, 16:00, by which time all entries must have been delivered to Mint of Finland Oy in Vantaa. More detailed instructions for participation are provided in the competition programme.

The theme of the design competition is Finland in 100 Years

The gold coin inspired by the centenary of Finland’s independence and minted in 2018 will express Finland’s future and look for visions on what Finland will be like 100 years from now.

Henna Karjalainen, member of the Collector Coin Committee and Communications Director of Mint of Finland, is eagerly awaiting the fruits of the design competition. “It will be intriguing to see what futures are envisioned for Finland and whether the submissions will present entirely new features or innovations”, Karjalainen says.

Collector coins have been minted since antiquity, and in Finland from 1951. Mint of Finland, owned by the state of Finland, mints all Finnish collector coins by decision of the Ministry of Finance. An official decree is published for each Finnish collector coin. The decree confirms the collector coin’s nominal value, design and technical specifications. Collector coins are legal tender in Finland.
